Blackboard Collaborate Launcher – Help: Joining web conferencing sessions using the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher
This article provides instructions on launching web conferencing using the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher. The launcher offers Mac OS X 10.8.4 and later users an easy way to join web conferencing sessions and play recordings by using a known and stable version of Java that is bundled within the launcher itself.
Note: The instructions in this article assume that you have already downloaded the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher. If you have not, see Knowledge Base article 3082 for instructions on downloading with Safari (the simplest, and recommended, download method) or Knowledge Base article 3080 for instructions on downloading with Firefox or Chrome.
Note: The instructions below explain how to launch sessions. Similar steps are used to launch recordings.
Click the session link. If you are the session owner, you are presented with the Launching Blackboard Collaborate page. If you are a guest user, you are presented with the Session Login page. Both of these pages give you the option to download the launcher (refer to image 1) in case you haven't done so yet.

Open your browser's Downloads folder and double-click on the .collab file to launch your session.Note: If you have more than one .collab file in your Downloads folder, use the one at the top of the list as it will be the one most recently downloaded. The .collab file will be named one of the following, depending on the type of session: meeting.collab, course.collab or dropin.collab. Recordings are named nativeplayback.collab.
An open Blackboard Collaborate Launcher.app confirmation dialog may be displayed when using the Launcher for the first time. Click Open button to proceed (refer to image 3).
